How to setup NSClient for NRPE in Windows

Follow

For Windows hosts we use NSClient++ for easy, accurate and secure monitoring of critical services and processes running on the host.

If you elected for "Self-managed + Monitoring" or any of the server management plans, then this will have been set up at installation.
If you are self-managed with, or without monitoring and need to set it up, this article is for you.

The first step is to download the latest, stable version of the NSClient. It can be downloaded here: http://nsclient.org/nscp/downloads

Once downloaded, run the application on the the host.

click "next", accept the EULA and click "next" again.

Choose the "Typical Installation" and "next".

You can go ahead and install it into the default path, or specify your own if you wish. Click "next".

Add the IP address as shown in the picture. This is our monitoring server. Choose everything except "NSCA" (web server is optional), then "next".

Now click "install". Once installed, it will automatically put a firewall rule to allow it access and start the nscp service.

Congradulations!
You've installed the monitoring agent on your system. Now you just need to advise Servers Australia that you have installed it, so we can add your host to our monitoring regime.
